Having played many sports and working within many different industries, I’ve collected a variety of injuries. In 2003 I needed knee surgery after a rugby injury and whilst working up trees as a tree surgeon, I had problems with my lower back, hips and sciatica. I was lucky enough to have a skipper on the search and rescue crew I was part of, who was a chiropractor and taught me how to treat myself. After constantly trying to keep myself in one piece, I was attracted to the idea of yoga knowing that it would help strengthen and balance my body rather than me having to keep ‘fixing’ it.

I’m a simple ‘start from the beginning’ type of person. I set my intention, I set my goals, I like to do it the right way from the start to give myself a solid foundation – so in the future I am strong and true to myself. Since coming to Australia and starting my Bikram practice, I’ve had the great opportunity to start achieving my goals.

My first class was hard. My mind rattled around my head bringing questions to mind then ‘I need air’… more questions, at the same time – ‘I’m so sweaty’. It made me aware of the things I needed to address, things we tend to ignore or put to one side. When something is right, for me I just know it, I just feel it. My feet became glued to one place as if to say, ‘Stay. This is right for you’. I challenge myself in every aspect of my practice and will continue to do so. This reflects in my life too.

Before each class, I set my intention to do the best for myself, no restrictions, no ego, no expectations. Just my best.
